Spring Gardening in the City

In our city garden plots, we are waiting patiently for our seeds and seedlings to get strong and grow. Seems like this spring was a long cold and rainy one. Now it is suddenly blazing hot. We are crossing our fingers, hoping these little guys can take it. I think we had more in the ground by this time last year that was already growing well.

This year we are looking forward to potatoes, onions, peppers, spinach, chard, tomatoes, beets, peas, lettuce, watermelon, cucumbers, radishes, and Chinese cabbage... so far. We are already strategically plotting how to fight our pests the cucumber beetle, squash borer, and harlequin bugs. I'll have to do a pest post this year. We are ready!

Before and After Upholstery

Sometimes my upholstery backlog keeps me offline for a while. These 2 matching fan back channel chairs were for a customer in D.C. I got them out this week, along with another arm chair (pics soon to follow).

Happy to see them move through the shop. It is hard but gratifying work!

Purple Spring Flowers

It's amazing to me that in our tiny concrete backyard, it is possible to grow a lush variety of flowers. This is what is blooming this week, so lovely!

Chairs of the Week, Before and After Uphosltery

Before: A tired set of channel back chairs, solid pieces that showed promise . They were upholstered in a dusty old peach velvet that was saggy and worn, begging for a face lift.

After: The pair is hip with a contemporary edge. Nice blue/brown chenille swirl is a striking and bold print that will make a statement in the living room. Comfortable, livable, and totally custom!
